CANOEING & KAYAKING

Canoeing and Kayaking in South Devon is a popular pastime and this comes as no surprise – with a matrix of beautiful coastline, rivers, creeks and coves to explore, it’s no wonder that so many take to the water. Spend your time navigating the stunning natural scenery, see castles, forts and historic houses from a new perspective, and catch a glimpse of some wonderful wildlife, including friendly seals! If you’re feeling hungry for a challenge, and have sufficient skills and experience, why not head for a white water stretch of the River Dart?

CLIMBING

Devon has hundreds of fantastic trad routes and bouldering of all grades and styles, on a variety of rock types in great locations. The choice ranges from the dark lava and culm of the north coast of Devon, to the granite of Lundy Island and Dartmoor, and the limestone of Torbay in southern Devon. Whatever grade you climb, Devon caters for all options from long adventurous climbs on remote sea cliffs, sea cliff climbs with a holiday ambience, bouldering on granite tors, and everything in between.

STAND UP PADDLEBOARDING (SUP)

Stand-up paddleboarding is a sport that has dramatically increased in popularity over the past few years, and for good reason. It’s incredibly easy to pick up, great for core strength, stamina, for seeing some of the BEST views and now boards are readily available to hire across the UK so there’s no excuse not to give it a go. If you’re heading off on a Devon holiday this season, here are the places we highly recommend testing out your SUP skills!

SURFING

The South West surfing scene is often dominated by Cornwall, with big-name surf resorts like Newquay and Bude stealing the limelight. But its modest neighbour, Devon, also boasts some of the best surf spots in the UK. Think glassy hollow barrels, fun beach breaks and long mellow rides.
While it’s the north coast which takes the prize in terms of quantity and quality of spots, there are also some gems in the South which are well worth pulling on the neoprene for when it’s going off.
